It would be a deterrent to everyone else, however. And just because someone is crazy doesn't mean they should get off easy or get a free pass. Dead is dead, regardless of the murderer's mindset.


There are occasional people like McVeigh who I don't think was crazy (he was an ideologue). But they are just as bad, the idea of dying as a result of their terror does not bother them. So, again, whether ideologues or mentally ill, responding with immediate execution is not s deterrent.

As far as mentally ill crimes go? Every civilization in world history has recognized some people commit crimes because they are insane or mentally ill. Whether this guy should get the death penalty or not I am not sure. I don't think I am necessarily against it but I would have to see just how cognizant the guy really is over what he did. If he really is so ill that he doesn't understand that what he did is delusional then how will killing him really help?
