at most i think they would cause a severe border skirmish but they know it's in their best interests to get the golan back through diplomacy. not that israel will ever give up any land to non-jews, but it's better for everyone in the long run if diplomacy can settle these things instead of violence...
Considering even the US doesn't recognize Israel's hold of the Golan Heights, I have to wonder when such diplomacy will ever occur. It will become increasingly difficult as time goes on and Israel continues to settle people there.
the US doesn't recognize israel's right to hold the west bank and gaza either, but for the most part we continually look the other way when they build new settlements there. eventually the status of that land will need to be determined, but i doubt israel will negotiate that way for at least another 10-20 years.
