Hezbollah and its allies left the government because the UN investigation into the Hariri assassination is set to issue indictments of Hezbollah figures, thus confirming what pretty much everyone knew about the assassination - that Syria and Hezbollah were behind it.

The collapse of the Lebanese government has the potential of starting a general war in the Middle East since the Sunni-Shia tensions in Iraq, Lebanon and generally in the region between the Iran-Syria Shi'ite bloc and the Saudi-Egyptian-Jordanian-Gulf Arab bloc are very high.

Thoughts?

and that is, major instability until hezbollah finds itself in power again.

i don't know about a region-wide conflict over this though. maybe syria and hezbollah will attack israel for no good reason other than they're there, but i don't see iraq, iran, and egypt all getting dragged into it unless they are provoked to action.
