The NYT would not have allowed and editoral blaming Muslims to be printed right after the Ft Hood attack. The NYT has a well established bias that extends beyond the editoral board. The Washington Post is just as bad. Look at the politcal cartoon they ran after it was clear the Tea Party was not involved.
No, that's true, and as I said, I agree that if you're going to blame a person or a group of people, you'd better have some pretty serious evidence. Not so if you merely point at the toxic political climate as a likely contributing factor, though.
Without supporting that argument. He was fixated on 2012 and other conspiracy topics. I would say Above Top Secret may be more to blame then any mainstream political debate. There does not seem to be any evidence that he even followed mainstream politics. So no it isn't safe to assume the political climate was an issue when there is no evidence that he even followed the political climate. This guy was much more likely to get his information from crazy blogs then Fox News. Should we launch a campaign against crazy conspiracy theory blogs?
Of course this guy is incoherent, and of course he won't have reached such bizarre ideas as he has just by watching Fox News. But you seem to think that crazy conspiracy theory blogs are somehow entirely separate from the mainstream political space, and that they aren't influenced by mainstream political actors (be it politicians or partisan media sources). I think that's a rather odd assumption to make. The people writing crazy conspiracy blogs follow the news like the rest of us do, sometimes even more so, they just interpret it in bizarre ways.
The only thing that it is safe to assume is this issue is being used by the left to try and silence critics. “Don’t criticize government or some crazy man might attack it”. I can see why they would want to try it but I can se why people would buy it.
To some extent, some people on the left are doing that, yes. But as I have said a number of times now and am growing rather tired of repeating, there is a big difference between using this as a partisan weapon, or using this as a wake-up call to the nation that the polarization is becoming an ever growing problem. The latter is perfectly valid, and I would even say rather necessary.
