Re: Man Gaps Send a noteboard - 11/01/2011 04:02:12 PM
Know what really cracks me up? People saying that because he smokes pot, he's a lefty. I, personally, know more conservatives who smoke than liberals. Using pot is not a political statement -- it's typically generational. Young and middle aged people are more likely to use than older people. So let's stop tossing out "he smokes weed" as an association with liberalism; decriminalizing drug use is a libertarian position, not Democratic position. Does he probably have some libertarian leanings, given his comments and his associations with anti-authoritarian authors? Yeah, he probably does. His political manifestations appear just as schizophrenic as his statements and actions, so each side trying to bang the square peg into the circular hole just looks laughable at this point. Ayn Rand! Marx! He must be on your side, not mine!

Get over it people.
I cannot even copy his manner because the manner of his prose was the manner of his thinking and that was a dazzling succession of gaps; and you cannot ape a gap because you are bound to fill it in somehow or other -- and blot it out in the process. -- Nabokov
