However, I thought you did a decent job of stating your arguement and didn't see it as being impolite. I still disagree and think you are a horrible monster (Rawrrr!!! JUST KIDDING!)
Considering I had to go back an correct a single letter in one of my comments for the massive way it twisted the intent of 'or' vs 'on' I probably should not criticize much on blurred intent, it happens easily enough. This topic rarely brings out anyone's generous and forgiving side either when it comes to interpreting intent of a comment.
We all draw arbitrary lines when it comes to morality though. I could take pro-life arguments and use them to justify outlawing killing animals for food. What makes animals arbitrarily less worthy than humans to live? Life is life. But that isn't where I have chosen to draw my line even though I rarely eat meat myself.
Amusingly, have been raised a veggie, I am strongly against the eating of meat, which I consider unhealthy, inefficient, and of questionable morality. Fortunately as a smoker I'm well used to that trinity of badness and eat meat daily. Pro-Life is an inaccurate term same as pro-choice is, and refers to a human, not an animal, so besides someone who just jumped on the bandwagon the animal killing aspect won't go much of anywhere, the argument functions off the sanctity of human life. Still, it's a valid point in the broader sense, most people don't think out their reasoning on positions beyond the basics. What makes human life more valuable? Doesn't actually matter, it is considered such by most everyone so the specific reason is not too relevant, you'll end back up at core assumptions of either 'God said so', 'Such is the way of things' or 'If we're not, then nothing is, and we say we are so who is to argue the point?' It's a legit point but no more handy than "How do we know anybody else exists?' it just ends up with an original assumption you pretty much have to take as true, because 'what if they don't exist?' doesn't really take you anywhere useful.
My stance on abortion has been moderated over the years from being very pro-life to understanding what some women are up against. If I had the time and money to fight abortion I would use it to help more women feel that they had the choice to have or keep the baby. There are so many complexeties involved that I can't paint with a broad brush anymore. I would rather encourage and assist than simply outlaw and leave the women deal with it on their own.
Most of us wobble around on it, for me the moral questions boil down easy, a fetus is quite probably a human, in my moral code no single person has a right to end another person's life through deliberate decision except in defense of one's self or others or through triage, no group has that right except by due process under the law, doing so outside that is not necessarily murder but it is wrong in my opinion. Its not really a movable POV, this does not mean I don't appreciate the shades of gray or turned a blind eye to the kinds of stresses and situations that can result. I believe effort is best spent on improving birth control, till we get to the point that you can basically flip a switch to 'not get pregnant now' and render most of those gray regions redundant.
I do appreciate your being on the board and your willingness to say what you think and feel. You add savor.

"Choose partners carefully to avoid this situation" cuts both ways; "choice" is the operative word.

a debate based on morality is not rational. humans aren't actually rational creatures, you know.
