The woman entered a legally binding contract, and then tried to resile. All the guy did was to get the money he was owed. She wouldn't have much of an argument, either morally or in court, when the only reason he was forced to do that in the first place was because she did exactly the same thing first. I'm sure she wouldn't have thanked him if he'd taken the strictly legal alternative of taking her to court. And in a country where (so I hear) the loser doesn't have to pay the winner's costs, he was even more justified in not doing that.
