Re: Gaps Send a noteboard - 15/12/2010 02:54:05 AM
I was able to fully and finally break with Facebook about three months or so ago, primarily from reading a few intersecting articles about the nature of internet advertising, and truly understanding how ridiculously fucking rich Zuckerberg is. When I realized that every time I stayed on Facebook for more than a few minutes, or clicked on one of those ubiquitous little thumbs, I was directly contributing to his wealth -- it helped cut the cord. Further, when I understood (and most of my friends don't agree with this, but eh) that Facebook was actually killing my ability to have future, unforeseen "magical" moments of running in to people, being really surprised what someone is doing with their life, etc, that also helped.

I cannot even copy his manner because the manner of his prose was the manner of his thinking and that was a dazzling succession of gaps; and you cannot ape a gap because you are bound to fill it in somehow or other -- and blot it out in the process. -- Nabokov
