At least, no more a flub than many other inconsistencies between scientific papers. *yawn* Maybe they didn't wash it because they knew it would break down and wanted to preserve it? Why didn't they wash it? I doubt they just "Forgot".

The only reason it "matters" so much is because it was so publicized. Which is probably the real problem here anyways. Media whoring.
