I did not.
However, I did write a solid 20,000 words of an original story, which is much, much more than I've done in a long time, if ever. So rediscovering the joys of writing = satisfactory second place prize. Maybe I'll have better luck next year.
How did the rest of you fare?
I even finished early.
I'm still not sure how I actually managed that...
What was your novel about?
You had to ask
Short version - loser saves the world (well, a kingdom)
Long version (synopsis style)- A young boy is exiled on the eve of manhood for failing to live up to his society's standards. Disappointed in his fate, he sets out to discover the truth of his failure. Hundreds of miles away, a young girl of his kingdom is given a taste life outside their restrictive society. Taking a chance, she runs away from the life her society would have imposed on her and makes her own life. A chance meeting leads to shared secrets, and discovery by one who would use them to save a kingdom. They are the only two who can stop the forces at work, but if they cannot put their pasts aside and learn to work together, the kingdom is doomed.
I know it sounds all melodramatic and vague (and probably boring as hell), but that's because at 50k words, I haven't even gotten to the part where they meet! Also there's all this magical vocabulary and stuff that would be too difficult to explain in a paragraph, and also the part about how I might change it all up when I edit it...
Good luck finishing it!!
I will say that I have found a perfectly logical reason that they are the only two people who can save the kingdom. I was very proud of that.
Logic is the best.
