If you want an uncommon suggestion, King Missile FTW.

I have been looking for some new music recently. Last time I tried to get you crazers to recommend me stuff I ended up with Scissor Sisters courtesy of Rachel, Wilco courtesy of snoop and His Infernal Majesty courtesy of an Irishwoman who really should know better.
So recommend me an album or two. I'll let you know what I think.
*partially inspired by Tash's post on the Tv/Movies board, but I had been thinking about doing this for a while. *

Music isn't always great (though some of the middle albums have some nice songs) but John Hall lyrics are first rate. They seem silly and inane at first, but after a few passes you start to realize there's usually either a fair amount of depth, satire or both. I hate to reference Detachable Penis, since it's seemingly the one song EVERYONE knows, but it's a prime example; it just seems absurd until you realize there are a LOT of young men out there who go to parties, get really drunk and have no idea the next morning what they did with their penises the previous night.
Note: Any applicability of "Ed" to me is entirely coincidental (and extremely unnerving.... )
Beyond that, music is not my strong suit. Maybe moondog can help you; he usually knows a few talented but obscure bands off the top of his head.

Fair enough, I'm not really sure what the definition of krautrock is anyway.
