Chiming in ONLY because I've gotten so much crap for generalizations over the years.

It just isnt correct. I dont understand how you can make such non-trivial generalisations. Maybe you can let us know.
it is correct - it isn't a generalisation. Stop misrepresenting what I said as one and tell us why you are doing so.
I hate to intrude, yet years of justifying not just specific generalization, but generalization itself, makes commenting on that irresistible. You did generalize, for precisely the reasons chandra states: A statement about an entire continent, with or without acknowledging cases where it doesn't apply, is generalizing. Were that enough to invalidate your statement you'd be in trouble, but it's not, because you properly qualified it to cover the exceptions. Saying, "Many Norwegians are blonde" is generalizing, but entirely accurate. Again, not trying to get in the middle (I have an opinion on who's right, but I'll leave that to ya'll), I just can't miss an opportunity to show "You're generalizing and therefore automatically incorrect" is a nonsensical rebuttal.

Pretty appalling, but also rather unsurprising on who voted which way. *NM*

Yeah, but when they brought that in they didn't have Jacob Zuma for president. *NM*

As noted, the difference is we don't execute people for it, nor condone those who do.

Very simplistic generalisation here, perhaps you should correct it *NM*

It was the inference at a continent level, that I felt was very simplistic.

Generalizations are inherently simplified; that doesn't make them inaccurate.
