Well, there's not really any such thing as International Law.

So who's going to stop them if they want to?
Also, note the hypocrisy illustrated below:
IWC: Don't hunt whales!
Native North Americans: But our people have done this for centuries for food! We don't want to sell them or anything.
IWC: OK, you're allowed to.
Native North Americans: Great, thanks! <Gets in modern boat with harpoon gun and goes out whaling>
IWC: Don't hunt whales!
Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands: But our people have done this for centuries for food! We don't want to sell them or anything.
IWC: Tough luck.
Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands: Screw you then. <Hunts whales anyway>
IWC: ZOMG the evil!
(For the record, I don't think there's any reason Native North Americans shouldn't use modern technology for whaling. But many people think that the reason it's OK for them, but not for white people, to hunt whales is because they use their cute little canoes and spears instead of big metal ships with huge winches. This isn't always true.)

—Nous disons en allemand : le guerre, le mort, le lune, alors que 'soleil' et 'amour' sont du sexe féminin : la soleil, la amour. La vie est neutre.
—La vie ? Neutre ? C'est très joli, et surtout très logique.

It is fine, if you are doing it for "science". Then you get to eat the left overs.
