I don't need the 3g version of either, wi-fi is more than sufficient for me. Battery life isn't a huge deal, as long as it lasts a couple days I don't mind if I have to plug my device in every 3 days instead of every 5.
I have a Kindle (with the 3G)...and I only have to charge mine about once a week. I'd say I use it to read 2-3 hours/day.
I think I would prefer the physical keyboard of the Kindle to the Nook's touchscreen, but I'd like to be able to borrow ebooks online from my library, and the Kindle doesn't do epub. I realize that all of Amazon's ebooks are DRM-locked, but that doesn't bug me enough to turn to an inferior reader. It was a bit of a red flag to see the Kindle doesn't have an option for expandable memory, but on the other hand, by the time I get to 3500 ebooks, I'll probably be looking at getting a new ereader anyway.
I'm still getting to know things about my Kindle since I haven't had it long, but I think that even if you delete something off your Kindle, it's still stored in your Amazon account and you can access it again if you want.
I've also heard the Kindle's "turn page" buttons are in the way and get bumped easily. Are they really a pain, or are they easy to avoid?
I guess I do bump the turn page buttons now and then...sometimes it's just my eagerness to get to the next page that has me hit it too soon. I pretty quickly got used to holding it where I wouldn't bump the buttons.
I would also like to know how well the internet-browsing works on both devices. I'd still use my laptop to do most of my surfing, but it'd be nice to check out a few sites on my reader (like RAFO). Is it just a gimmick that hasn't been worked out yet or are the browsers worth it?
The browser on my Kindle isn't that great. I would never use it if I had an alternative. I find it pretty clunky. I have the smaller size of Kindle, and the browser window is so small it's hard to read. You can expand the view of sections, but still... That said, I did find it useful the other day. My husband and I were in the car on our way to do some shopping/have dinner. We thought about going to a movie but didn't know what was playing or show times. I was able to look it up in the car, which was nice.
Is there anything I'm overlooking? Any feature I'm making too big a deal out of? Which one would you recommend?
I looked into the Nook before I bought my Kindle. I didn't see a whole lot of difference between the two. What turned me off the Nook was the salesperson at the Barnes and Noble store I visited. She just turned me off with the way she presented things.
The two products are quite similar. I would have preferred the salesperson say something like, "They are both good products; here are the things we feel make ours the better buy." Instead, she just kept harping on supposedly bad things about Kindle...things that didn't matter to me or were only possibilites. For example, she kept going on about how it's such a pain to have to send the Kindle away for repairs if they are ever needed. Well, yeah...IF. Just...she made me feel all icky with her negativity. It was like there wasn't any good reason to pick the Nook over the Kindle...just bad things about the Kindle.
Anyway...love, love, love my Kindle.
