I have the current e-Ink nook. I love it. There are some very big reasons I chose it over the Kindle, not the least of which is Amazon's complete lockdown on their device.
That being said, while the nook color is MUCH cheaper than the iPad, I don't think it will sell to people who would be considering the iPad. I also don't think it will up-sell people who are buying the e-Ink readers. I have no use for color and agree with Palatine about the touch screen. The battery life is pretty lame as I consider my eReader a device that I have to charge once a week, not one I have to charge every night.
It will bomb. Horribly. I just hope it doesn't take the real nook with it.

It's definitely correct. The point of buying a dedicated reader is the e-ink screen.

Downloading Kindle files to PC is a lot easier, so that did it for me.
