Despite the precedent being there, it's not a verbatim quote from the Bible. Kind of like people assuming "God helps those who help themselves" is in there, too.
This is somewhat relevant to the debate, too. A lot of people culturally identify with Christianity, but do little to nothing that actually makes them a Christian. If they did, they might be reading the Word more to know what's actually in there. (and treat all folks as what we are, beggars leading other beggars to real substance)
