I know someone I worked with who had wrist problems used a joystick thingy instead of a normal mouse. That might be easier to operate.
And speech recognition software (Dragon?) is supposed to be pretty good nowadays.

A former colleague of mine suffered from a similar problem and used a giant trackball device instead of a mouse. I know hers was designed for children but I can't find that one specifically; I've linked something similar but I'm not sure that is still available either. Either way, a trackball might be better because you can do what you need to do just by moving your hand over it without having to grip it.
