How do you feel about politically fictional emails? And the people who read them and forward them w/o bothering to check facts?
I just snopesed someone, and reply alled to the twenty people he had on the list with me. It always makes me feel extremely snobby, but seriously, we don't need ignorance traveling at light speed.
Do you simply delete?
Delete and block the sender?
Make some witty retort?
Snopes them?
Other options?
Which is to say that in cases like this rudeness is often in the eye(s) of the beholder, and they're more likely to see rudeness if you're pointing out that what they think is true is crap. I kind of feel like for the most part people know they can find out if something is real or not if they really want to, and if they don't want to it's because they've already decided what they want to believe.
But how I respond in this particular situation depends on the mood I'm in and who sent it. I have done that a few times on some egregiously false things (snopesed them and replied to all) but most of the time I just reply with the "that's not true, look here" to only the person who sent it, because damnit, some things are true and some things are not and it's important to recognize the difference. But when I'm feeling more hopeless about it all I just delete it and/or laugh about it with my hubby.

I'm trying to decide how rude I've just been.

I don't think it was rude, but I might if I got your e-mail and disagreed with you

How can you "disagree" if it is a factual error?

Well, you are a Yankee. So there's no telling what the limits of your rudeness could be. *NM*

I did not send it to my mother. She would have received it well (been there, done that).

That isn't rude. That is moral. You did the right thing. He was rude for spreading lies.

I've gotten people to take down Facebook notes replicating such emails by posting Snopes links.

I've only done that once; I mostly find them amusing, but that one was too much.
