Technophobes have a prejudice against Linux because they think it's difficult. Linux is that scary black screen that hackers type into in the movies, right? Pshaw. There are many flavors of Linux, and many different desktop environments for you to choose from. Here's a screenshot of what a standard Linux desktop might look like.
I even tried to pick a "default" installation, too. Without much work, your desktop can look like this. Familiar, no?
Linux isn't hard. Sure you like Mac, but you'd like Linux just fine if you tried it. It's a very mature, user-friendly desktop OS these days, and the only thing it really lacks is some of the big commercial software. As a Mac user though, you should already be used to that.
Give Linux a try sometime!
Apparently you missed the part where I said I had used it. It was my operating system for about six months. I used Suse, which is rather user-friendly. I have tried Ubuntu, too. It was no better.
