My husband had gone to work at 7, my son had been up 3 times in the night, so I was snoozing until he woke up again. My phone KEPT ringing, and it was kind of pissing me off. LOL. Finally around 9:30, I got up, took the baby downstairs and put him in his little play pen thing, and turned on the tv then headed over toward the bathroom to shower.
I heard Dan Rather's voice and though "uh oh, plane crash" then turned to watch for a minute.
What I DID see was more awful than anything I ever expected to see. I didn't shower, and just watched and watched.
Oh, the reason the phone kept ringing was because my sister kept calling to see if I was "alright", because she knew I was alone for the first time.
Ugh. What a day.

I was on break at my job (Air Force) at RAF Lakenheath, England. Flipped the breakroom TV to Sky News and watched Live as the second plane hit. I immediately told the NCOIC (Non-Commission Officer In Charge) what had happened at what was being reported. He came in the room and that was when the first tower fell.
He immediately got on the phone with his Commander to get more intel. We were all sent home within the hour with instructions not to go anywhere and be ready for a deployment call. Then, a couple of hours later, we were called and told non-essential personnel were to stay by a phone and not report to the base until further notice.
3 days I spent by the phone, worrying every time I took my wife in to work that I would miss the Call and get reprimanded. We were finally given the All-Clear on Friday afternoon. The Pubs were quieter than usual and no one would let me buy a drink for three weeks after that.
