Not to quibble, but I will quickly add that the 'center' of the solar system, the 'center of mass' at least, is not actually in the sun, and the distinction is not insignificant.
On the other points, let it be noted that most of the gay marriage and marijuana tip is from older voters, not specifically conservatives, let alone republicans. Pew lists 73% of the nation favoring medical marijuana, 61% republican, 54% conservative Republican. It also finds 41% favor marijuana being legalized across the board, with 24% GOP support. I've seen polls showing 1/3 for gay marriage amongsts conservatives vs half for the country, so it's not that wide a gulf nor orthodox, and GOP support is beginning to show up. This is campaign season and I've been to a lot of events, including yesterday when most of our state candidates showed up, not one mentioned drugs or gay marriage. Most republicans, most conservatives, do believe in evolution, they just object to it being used as a platform for atheism, and stem-cells is totally an abortion issue, if you believe a fertilized embryo is human, destroying one for research is pretty damn unethical, on par with injecting a toddler with Ebola.
It was hyperbole, anyway. The point was that the Republicans seem to have problems with scientific facts if those scientific facts contradict the Bible.

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
