And it likely will be better than XP, given another year or two. For the time being, though, it's still quite immature. Windows 7 is great if you like flashy new features, but I wouldn't make the blanket statement that it's "better than XP" quite yet. It has more features, yes, but lots more bugs, too. If you want bug-free operation with the majority of software out there, stick with XP for now.
Seriously, I can run Adobe CS3 programs on Vista all day long with no freeze up; give XP a few hours and I can't even close the programs to restart them. Vista is far superior to XP.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
