I do think that all religions/denominations should be demoted to a life style choice. No church should get a tax break. Religious holidays should not be officially free for all, instead people should get more personal days that they can spend on a religious holiday, if they so choose.
If everyone had personal days, instead of state recognized holidays, you would still have massive portions of companies and state agencies taking those days off, forcing the companies and agencies to close anyway. If they don't close, and instead force some people to work those holidays as a regular day... well, honestly, I think they'd have a few law suits on their hands.
