Re: Kindle books don't convert to ePUB well Tavi Send a noteboard - 29/07/2010 07:16:32 PM
I've tried and have yet to find a good conversion.

The nook and Sony's readers support ePUB which is a standard format. Lots of free books are available from various places in ePUB. Amazon really only wants you reading Kindle book on a Kindle, so like someone else said, they've DRMd it out the wazoo. For that reason, I shunned the Kindle. That, and the wasted space of the physical keyboard. I don't need it ever, so why have it there on the device all the time. The nook is a touchscreen keyboard similar (though not as good) to the iPhone's.

Most of the free books I run across are available in multiple formats, not just ePUB. Where are you finding the books that are ePUB only?

The DRM on the Kindle format is one of the reasons why I've still yet to buy a lot of books from them. The vast majority of my books are the free offers they have. I don't want to spend so much money replacing my library with Kindle books, and a few years down the line, have my entire collection become obsolete. So while I love my Kindle, I hate the DRM on it.

And I'm horrible at using touchscreens, so I actually prefer the physical keyboard.
