It's not like "this is just the way Mike always did it at wotmania" has been the prevailing driver of decisions around here Look, people who perceive added value in the premium account/can afford to purchase them will, and people who don't/can't won't. Just like at wotmania. I don't see anything wrong with taking this opportunity to question whether there might be a better way to fund the site. Seems to me to be rather in the spirit of things, actually, so I don't see it as "grumbling" at all.
It comes across as bitching.
When Mike took money for something he made years ago and didn't bother to update, nobody questioned it. When Ben wants money for something he has spent countless hours making for us, suddenly it should be free.
