Maybe, but his surgery was quite a while ago now. He juestn't doesn't look as sharp as normal. *NM* Liam Send a noteboard - 04/07/2010 08:52:58 AM
However, this second half... crazy.

First the penalty. All the spanish players objecting except piqué who probably knew the ref was correct. And the miss. Actually not unexpected for some reason...

Then the second penalty. Cheap, sure, but I don't get the yellow card... if that is a penalty, it should be a red.

and the retake. of course he'd miss that one, he had already celebrated a goal. But the subsequent take-down of fabregas should have been another penalty every day of the week.

Strange.

and the goal? Strange... a ball shouldn't hit the posts that many times within 2 seconds.

Crazy I tell you. But the Spaniards have a problem right now; they are up against Germany, and they can't keep playing this bad against that opposition, even if Müller is out. Klose still has another goal left in him this tournament.

...Paraguay took theirs. I'd need a replay to see that too though.

That said, Spain definitely should have had a second penalty, and I do think Spain probably (just) deserved to win it. Villa has been fantastic so far, but you do wonder just how good they could have been this tournament if Torres was on form. Which begs the question again, has the Premier League taken too much out of its players?

Also, someone made a point on twitter earlier that Messi, in the afternoon match, really needed a Xavi and/or Iniesta; and, in the evening match, Xavi and Iniesta really needed a Messi. I liked that.

As for Germany, I think it really demands on how soon Germany manage to score a goal. Their big results have stemmed from teams desperate to score goals, and them breaking (in excellent fashion). Whilst Spain have been struggling to score goals, I think their ridiculous possession could stifle Germany somewhat. We'll see I guess.

Also, for all the talk of South American teams being successful this tournament, it's interesting that Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay have all gone out to European teams. I'd say that, perhaps, the only expected result out of those three was the Spain win.

Oh, how simply grand it is to be travelling by dirigible again. Direct us to the west good sir, tonight we will remember what it is to live.

Torres is coming back from a fairly recent surgery. I assume that's what's ailing him. *NM* - 04/07/2010 04:55:27 AM 295 Views
