I sure hope that the area now known as the Netherlands wins again, like they did (finally) in the 17th century.

I would not mind any European nation winning, to be honest. Though I would prefer Germany to win again. But there was a really good article in the NYT a few weeks ago that claimed that the Netherlands is the overall best nation that has not won a World Cup yet.


Based on World Cup performance, definitely the Netherlands - I don't think anyone else has made it to two finals and a semifinal (now two) without winning it all - but then Spain is notorious for choking and underperforming.

And as for the 17th century, don't remind me. :P As you know, only half of the Netherlands won at the time, and the other half is not remotely as good at football. ;)

Still, I wouldn't mind seeing an Argentina victory, either. Messi is extraordinary enough to deserve one, even if the argument that Maradona really doesn't deserve it has some validity.
