We are so gonna kick some American booty
Argh! We so should have won that game. Not because Robert Green is a muppet, cause his shocking howler was equalised by his awesome save against Altidore, but because we outplayed USA. They were good, but we did play better. Our passing was crisp, we made quite a few chances and were strong in defence.
If only Joe Cole had been playing. Silly Fabio

Ol' SWP played a shocker when he came on, and Lampard made some very basic mistakes. Plus we were far too happy to coast once we went 1-0 up, when the USA were on the back foot, and then struggled against a much tighter (and surprisingly violent!) USA defense after the equaliser.
England also played far too narrow. Any pass from the centre to Lennon generally came much later than it should have done, generally when he had two players marking him, which meant that most of our width on the right hand side came from Johnson bringing the ball up from the back.
Heskey was much much better than expected, but you can't help feeling that Rooney should be much further up the pitch instead.
That said, I'm not nearly as worried about the team as I was prior to the match. I thought we'd play badly but still finish top of the group. Instead we played mostly okay, and sometimes very well, and...well, I still think we'll finish top, albeit without 9 points.
It should also be said that the USA played to their strengths, and it stood them in damned good stead. I hope they do well.

Oh, how simply grand it is to be travelling by dirigible again. Direct us to the west good sir, tonight we will remember what it is to live.
