Alternative energy is a pipe dream for now, though. LiterateDog Send a noteboard - 03/06/2010 02:40:41 AM
Of course, a lot of them are the same morons whose refusal to accept any nuclear power is partially responsible for this disaster. Nuclear waste, unlike oil spills, doesn't float away.

Unless there's a meltdown. And the nuclear industry has a better record on those than the oil industry, barring Chernobyl.

Nuclear is good, but it isn't economically competitive. Also, the time it would/will take to build the power plants is daunting. Solar and wind are nothing but the fringe for us right now. Not viable. No, for now, coal and oil are what we're going to have to rely on.

There is nothing wrong with drilling. We just have to make sure the safety regulations are followed. As we can see now, the corrupt and union-riddled government agency that was in charge of doing that was next to useless. You can't rely on the government any more than you can necessarily rely on the good graces of a corporation. At least BP is going to have real consequences over this and I suspect they and many other oil companies are going to "clean up their acts" all on their own now. What BP is going through is far worse than the government would ever have done to them.

So you support greater regulation and oversight of offshore oil? - 03/06/2010 09:30:25 AM 462 Views
No. I support the basic safety regulations that are already in place. - 03/06/2010 09:55:42 AM 447 Views
