even if you want to look at the contemporaries of the artists they do mention, Orff's 1937 'Carmina Burana' is still immensely popular.
Much more recently, I liked John Adams 'On the Transmigration of Souls' which came out a few years ago.

I love the Orff though. Have the score, listened to it a lot at one time.
My problem with the perception of 'modern classical' music.
