The elections are in November; that was the very first thing I thought. And quite frankly, most Americans don't even know who Guy Fawkes is. I doubt they would try to blatantly pull a shenanigan like that. Sorry, but my bullshit detector is off the scale on this one.
I think it's clear why the association was made, but in retrospect it's difficult to say it was deliberate on the part of the people producing the ad.
