I think I agree, although I think it was a lesser of two evils sort of thing for the hotel.
They had to choose between accomodating the requests of their paying guests (in a tough economic climate) or easily replaceable staff (the job market is great if you're hiring). Or do neither - it was a no-win situation as far as I can tell.
