Border states are being overrun and people are getting more and more angry about it. There has always been illegal immigrants coming across the border but it has reached unsustainable levels now. Dallas is a long ways from the border but 70% of the children born in county hospitals are born to illegal immigrants. The borders states are going from place with a rich influence of Hispanic cultures to places that are becoming dominated by Hispanic culture. The people living in these areas have a right to want to protect their culture and their way of life.
This part, at least - people feeling that their region is overrun by a different language and a different culture, even if those differences are relatively minor.
Of course, that issue would exist to a lesser extent without illegal immigrants as well (in Belgium it's entirely unrelated to illegal or indeed any immigrants, after all), and will remain an issue even if the borders should get closed and the illegal immigrants dealt with somehow, assuming that mass expulsions are unrealistic and unlikely to happen.
