Many bug trackers allow the reporter to modify their own bugs, which will cut down on the amount of open bugs if others help them find a way around the issue.

For example, bug 206 could now be closed as invalid by the reporter and not having to clutter up the list of open bugs. And some of the many dupes previously could also have been closed, cutting down on admin work.

Then again, coding such a function would be work, too.
