See, the problem with dropping the prices of books, is afaik, that authors earn most their money as a byproduct of Hardcover sales. That used to be true, anyway. If we now drop prices to ebook sales, there's a pretty large profit margin disappearing for the author (even if costs are cut by not having a physical book, manufacturing and handling still costs less than the disappearing overall profits, which in turn means the author gets a smaller cut.). Availability will increase manyfold, though... in general, there is a market for HC books, and I suspect the publishers do not want it to disappear... paperbacks, though? perhaps they'll get replaced eventually.
I remember one of my friends who had published in both print and online book mediums...he was telling me he gets most of the ebook sale while everybody else gets most of the print sale.

Ideally, universities will start renting out eTextbook readers, or something. *NM*

That'd be great. My school rents out standard ebook readers now, so it won't be long. *NM*
