I think that teachers who push their own ideas are certainly a problem, but I have never had a problem with teachers who have their own opinions and state them, but don't grade down their students for taking opposing viewpoints if those viewpoints are well-reasoned.

The former tend to be obnoxious, while the latter are very good for challenging students to think.

I remember we had a substitute teacher in seventh grade social studies who was very obviously an ex-hippie and a communist of some sort. He started class with "Let's see what candy-coated crap they're shoving down your throats in this book..." It was definitely not the right approach for seventh-graders.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
