Hi Everyone,

Well, as the subject line entails, I need recommendations from you lovely people on what book/series to pick up and read while I'm waiting for some of my favorite authors to grace me with a new addition. I will list some of my favorites/least favorites here and hopefully that will eliminate some recommendations, and give you a sense of what I enjoy. Thanks in advance :).

Favorites that I either loved or haven't reread in a long time in order to tell that they are rubbish:

-The Wheel of Time series - Robert Jordan (obviously)
-The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
The Silmarillion
The Hobbit
The Children of Hurin
The Lost Tales
(...I like Tolkien, okay?!)
-A Song of Ice and Fire - George R.R. Martin
-The Sword of Truth Series - Terry Goodkind
(I don't really like this series anymore...it was too much of
Goodkind preaching from his pulpit and not enough solid story
telling.)
-The Symphony of the Ages - Elizabeth Haydon
-The Wayfarer Redemption series - Sara Douglass
(I loved this series until she did a complete copy/paste of the
Old Testament into the last 2 books...talk about a buzz kill.)
-The Abhorsen Trilogy - Garth Nix
(This is young adult, but still decent)
-The Belgariad/Mallorean series - David Eddings

Some of my least favorite series/authors:

-Anything written by R.A. Salvator
(I'm sorry, all of you die hard fans of R.A. Salvatore, but I
feel like his plotlines, characters, worlds, etc are very
generic; I don't like reading D&D campaigns.)
-The Elder Gods, The Tamuli, The Elenium - David Eddings (Basically I dislike everything aside from the Belgariad/Mallorean
that he has written, because it is repetitive and banal.)
-The Assassin's Trilogy/Tawny Man Trilogy - Robin Hobb
(These books had great promise, but I felt like they fell far
short of their potential.)
-The Runelords - David Drake??
(These had potential too...)
-The Eragon series -Christopher Paolini
(I don't really feel like I need to say anything else on this.)
-The Xanth books by Piers Anthony

There are additional books/series to add on both sides, I just can't recall them right now. I honestly love epic fantasy, and I have a hard time delving into any other genre. I am not very big into the Science Fiction side of things, although 1984 is one of my favorite books (it is sort of Science Fiction...). I was an ancient history major, so I love historical fiction and history in general, so anything that incorporates that would be wonderful.

Any recommendations you have would be wonderful. Thanks! :)
