It seems like it would be impossible to prevent abuse of this coming to pass. I think we should live every day we get, and yes, my religious beliefs come in to play here, but anyone who really wants to die can take their own life without involving someone else. There is no need to have "assistance" in suicide, and most cases that would apply to this proposed issue would be able to die through lack of treatment aside from palliative care (such as pain management).Terry Pratchett could take care of his own suicide, and if he were to wait until he was too far gone to do so he would not be of sound mind to agree to the procedure. A power of attorney would have to make it for him, even though he may have changed his attitude when faced with the reality of imminent death.
