I mean, it doesn't get a whole lot more fantastical than man-eating plants from outer space. 
I noticed in some of the replies you were looking for "serious" plays or musicals -- well, this obviously wouldn't fall into that category, but I'm pretty sure most musicals try not to take themselves too seriously. I could probably name more funny musicals than serious ones off the top of my head.
As for straight plays, I might have to think a bit harder, but I'd probably come up with some eventually (serious, that is, I'm not sure about the sf/f). Although I did fairly recently see an excellent adaptation of Eurydice. Don't want to get into your "Iliad" territory, though.
