No offense to those who enjoy following the latest news, but it makes him seem. . .well, pathetic. Every update he posts is nothing more than a list of the most excruciating minutiae, illustrating how little he actually accomplishes.
- "Finished a chapter. . .or maybe not. Who knows?"
- "Guys, went crazy today: switched from writing one part, to writing another. I'm a literary pioneer!"
- "Meereenese knot! hehe, yeah, I still have writer's block. Making up a cutesy name and referring to it in every update seems to help, though."
- "I hope I still like my writing tomorrow!"
/sigh. Apparently some people enjoy them, but I really don't see how these sort of updates help anyone, least of all him. The only information they convey is how slow he is. They're one of the primary reasons I no longer think of him as a lofty genius of an author, like I did when I first read his books. Instead he seems more like a doddering old fool who can't push himself beyond his own indecision. He cheapens himself with these posts, really. There's nothing inherently WRONG with them, I'm just saying you wouldn't catch me doing it is all.
If I ever publish a book and force people to wait on a sequel, they'll get it when they get it, and not before. And they will all go on about their lives, annoyed at not having the book, but respectfully imagining me slaving away at dozens of higher pursuits.

I wonder if he has ever herd the B5 term "It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to work". *NM*

Agreed. I have no problem with slow writing, but conveying his excruciating progress is a bad idea. *NM*
