I've reread the original Riftwar books and the Empire series multiple time imlad Send a noteboard - 27/01/2010 06:29:27 PM
And although I had aged and matured (or did I?) a lot in the intervening years, I still love the worlds of Midkemia/Kelewan. I've reread the Eddings stuff, and fought it absolutely BLAH. When I tried to reread the Shanara books, they were even worse then the rereadings of Eddings.

So yeah, I'd have to say that overall Feist's books were good, and definitly something I would encourage someone new to fantasy to read.

In some ways, discounting the Feist books of the last decade at least, I prefer his stuff over Jordan's at times. I have always felt more at home with Pub and Jimmy, with Arutha and Amos. Sure, Rand & Co. have become a part of my life, but I think that also has to do with the fact that I've always had more people to talk to about WoT then the others, and there have been more (quality) WoT books to come out then there have been (quality) Riftwar books. Unfortunate.

Midkemia is one of those settings I would love to run or play an RPG in, much more so than Randland.
at which age you read Magician? :P You kind of seem to be in a similar situation to what Rebekah describes about Eddings, i.e. overrating the book because of nostalgia, and enjoying it more because of that than you would if you read it for the first time now.

Admittedly, I haven't gotten around to rereading it myself, so I'm not really in a position to judge, but I did reread most of the Empire trilogy, which - again like Rebekah - I remember finding at least as good or better than the Riftwar saga itself, bac, when I first read it. During the reread, my opinion of it sunk significantly. So as a result of that, perhaps unjustly, I'm not inclined to rate Magician or the rest of the Riftwar saga all that high, certainly not higher than WoT.
Death to the Regressives of the GOP and the TeaParty. No mercy for Conservatives. Burn them all at the stake for the hateful satanists they are.
