Perhaps you should delve into hard SF. Other genres include historical fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, historical romance, contemporary general fiction, culinary mystery, comedy, poetry, and plays. I'm sure there are hundreds of others, but this is what I can think of in a minute. But to venture into NON_FICTION? That is indeed a scary place to go.
