I've read The Hedge Knight (that was the one in the original Legends, right?). But that was a long time ago so I don't have any real memory of it.
I could easily be wrong in my comments above, but there is so much discussion on how they relate to the series that it overshadows what could be an otherwise great novella where one doesn't need the familiarity with ASOIF to enjoy it.

I don't see where Larry says that. The Dance of Dragons mentioned is a historical event lightly referenced in the books a couple of times, not related to the event that ADWD will be covering (which is the 'second' Dance of Dragons, according to GRRM). Otherwise there is no connection to the novels, nor could there be since they take place so far apart.
