Spanish will get you farther than French outside of that continent and German, while a lovely language I enjoyed speaking, is not heavily used outside of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (at least, as far as I know). Also, I found German to be rather easy to learn, so you could likely teach yourself instead of in a class. Particularly if you're only going to be reading it.
Of course, if you plan on travelling a lot to Africa, then I'd say go french. If not, Spanish.
