Personally... Phelix Send a noteboard - 19/12/2009 10:13:29 AM
I heard that there's this new author in town doing this shindig with the new WoT books. And I figure I ought to maybe check him out in his own element before I check him out in Jordan's.

Checking out of up-and-coming authors aside, I'm torn between Elantris and Mistborn as my first reading of Sanderson. Suggestions?

I enjoyed all of Sanderson's works... though, I will admit that he frequently has minor editing issues that bug me. (In both print and online versions)

Warbreaker and Elantris both deal with more political intrigue and have a mystery that must be solved, whereas Mistborn is more about fighting the Big Bad Boss. All three deal with the concepts of religion, faith, and belief... and they all have interesting things to say.

Honestly, if you just want an introduction to his writing style, I would say Warbreaker or Elantris, as they are stand alone novels and definitely convey his style, but if you want to get into him, read them all.
I was Phelix on wotmania, I will always be Phelix in the "real" world, and now I am Phelix on RAFO.

You will make all kinds of mistakes; but as long as you are generous and true and also fierce you cannot hurt the world or even seriously distress her.- Churchill

Another book, or is he bad? Your reply is not very helpful. *NM* - 19/12/2009 02:46:50 AM 281 Views
I would call him average. - 19/12/2009 03:30:24 AM 703 Views

Rather strongly disagree with this. - 21/12/2009 04:41:01 PM 604 Views

I loved all four of his books. - 19/12/2009 04:00:09 PM 585 Views
Mistborn is a better story, but do you want to read a series or a stand-alone? *NM* - 19/12/2009 05:45:37 PM 271 Views
If that mattered a lot to me, don't you think I'd already have chosen? - 19/12/2009 06:24:25 PM 639 Views
I would never dare presume how you think. *NM* - 20/12/2009 06:08:52 PM 267 Views

Warbreaker is better as a standalone. Mistborn if you want a series. - 21/12/2009 10:48:46 PM 679 Views
