When I first read it, I cried like a baby through the last 5-6 chapters of The Amber Spyglass, not to mention one other super tragic moment in The Subtle Knife. It's pretty much my favourite book of all time.
Oh I know which tragic moment in The Subtle Knife you cried at! Me too! I bawled like a baby. Had to put the book aside for awhile while I mourned.
My favourite book of all time is still LOTR, which I've probably read twelve times, but I have to say HDM is right up there and I'm sure I'll be reading it again more than once.
When did you read it? How old were you? Has it inspired you to read Milton's Paradise Lost? Have you read any critiques of HDM?
I don't know if "critiques" is the best work to use, what I mean is analysis

Also: it wasn't anywhere near as controversial as I first thought going in. *NM*
