Or maybe less sophisticated ones, I suppose (not there that's anything wrong with a less sophisticated read). Either way, most of us are simply not the target audience for them anymore. Time has magnified their flaws, as does our age as readers.
In the right mindset or situation I could see myself enjoying them again, but I generally prefer to read things that don't require syzygy to be enjoyable.

As others have mentioned, they were okay for their time period. Word and Void is a decent series. *NM*
