Stranger in a Strange Land, in fairness, is a rather weird book. I'm not sure you're missing out on much there.
Heinlein wrote a lot of weird books. I was surprised when I discovered that a probable reason for that was a brain tumor. I went a long time just thinking he was an odd fellow.
