Can I donate an advanced reading copy of a book to a library? Gher Send a noteboard - 03/12/2009 02:45:54 AM
I won a couple ARCs from a Tor giveaway, the one I've read I didn't care for. I don't really want to find the space on my shelves to keep it, but I really, really hate throwing books away. Plus, my local library has a really slashed budget this year, so they're having a hard time getting new books.

And then, just in case my library won't take them, can I trade ARCs into a used book store for store credit? This is essentially selling the ARCs, which all have NOT FOR SALE written right on the covers. I'd like to give them to my library, but I'm just wondering what the normal procedure is with ARCs.

I will wait til the books are on the market, I'm not going to give them away before the real book is officially released.

So is it all well and good, or just legal but frowned upon, or illegal to donate or sell ARCs?

And if anyone cares, I don't recommend The Atlantis Code (that was the only ARC I've read so far). It was a cheap Da Vinci Code knock-off, and not very entertaining at that.
