Are we supposed to view Kvothe as an unreliable narrator?

Or is the framed narrative a way of showing how word-of-mouth distorts the truth and turns ordinary people into heroes?

How did you feel about the structure? Was it annoying? Did it work for you?

It worked for me, I like a bit of Framing. I like the set-up, here we have a man waiting to die, but he's not old, yet he has done a lot, enough that people hunt him, fear him, respect him. So what did he do? Enough little snippits are revealed to intrigue

"I saw the place in Imre where you killed him. By the fountain, The cobblestones are all shattered. Shattered. They say no one can mend them" - Like this. Or mention of a New Chandrian by Chronicler.

Not to mention Kvothes summary of himself. Which gives us plenty to look for as the story truly starts.

As for the story...well I view this as a story about stories. Are they true or not? Are they accurate or not? Does it matter? Who owns a story - The teller, the subject, or the listener?

So yes, I think we are meant to think both, that he is reliable, yet maybe he's not. Bast certainly interjects enough to leave you wondering.

Finally I'm intrigued by where the story is going, and the framing helps this. We have 2 books left apparently, can all the questions be solved by then? (it took him 600 pages to reach 15 after all) Will the story end with the end of Kvothes story to Chronicler, or will it continue? Will Kvothe deal with:

You know better than that, Bast. All of this is my fault. The Scrael, the war. All my fault."
